“Something went wrong” Xbox “E” Error Codes – Fix it!
If you start an Xbox and see the “Something went wrong” error code screen or the “E” error codes, this guide will give you some troubleshooting tips.
This error code usually occurs when your Xbox console restarts, namely after a system update. There are a few different “E” error codes: E100, E101, E102, E105, E106, E200, E203, E208, E204, E206, E207, and E305.
Xbox Error Code (E100, E200, E204, or E207)
If you see any of the error codes mentioned above, here is what you can do:
Restart the Xbox
- On your controller, select the D-pad and the A button. With this, you can choose the “Restart this Xbox” option on the “Something went wrong” screen.
- You should now be able to return to the TV’s “Home” screen whenever you restart the console.
- The gaming console will function effectively now.
Just in case restarting the Xbox doesn’t work, check the next step below.
Reset the Xbox console
On your controller, select the D-pad and the A button to launch “Troubleshoot” on the “Something went wrong” page. This will open up the “Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.” After this, you can select “Reset this Xbox.” Next, whenever you see a prompt, select “Keep games and apps.” This will now restart your gaming console and remove all unnecessary bugs or data. However, if this step fixes nothing, refer to the next step below.
Makes Updates to the System
Need to update your Xbox console? The Xbox Startup Troubleshooter can help! Here’s how:
- Turn the console off.
- Now, remove the power cord from the holder to make sure that the console is entirely powered off.
- Wait 30 seconds. Now, plug back the power cord.
- Press and hold down on the “Pair” button. You will find it below the Xbox and the Eject button.
- Press on the Xbox button.
- Hold the eject and pair buttons for 10 to 15 seconds.
- When you hear two “power-up” tones, let go of the Pair and Eject buttons.
- You should now be able to go to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.
If an update is needed, you can even use a USB flash drive with the Offline System Update files. Just plug the drive in, select “Offline System Update” on the troubleshooter with your controller, and it will update your console using those files.
Again, if all else fails, the last resort is to restore factory settings.
